GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida defensive end Jermaine Cunningham and a former teammate were arrested Wednesday on a misdemeanor battery charge, Gainesville police said.
Cunningham and former Gators linebacker Jon Demps were being held without bond after they were accused of hitting a restaurant worker with a sandwich and cups, according to a police report.
Gainesville police said the worker told officers the players harassed him when he told them to pay for a bag of chips.
The players fled before officers arrived but were located soon after on campus, police said. School officials have not commented.
It's unclear what effect Cunningham's arrest would have on Florida's game against Michigan in the Capital One Bowl.
Demps was a sophomore at Florida last year but left the team after the season.
