Gator Football Bye Week

Mr2Bits

The No. 1 Florida Gators are on bye this week. Typically the Gators like to have their bye week closer to the Georgia game, but this year it couldn't have come at a better time. With quarterback Tim Tebow still recovering from his concussion, the Gators are fortunate to have him resting for an additional week. Reports out of Gainesville are that Tebow is ahead of schedule, but no official word yet on if he'll play in Baton Rouge on October 10. So with the Gators off this week, let's take a look at some other news.

While we're talking about Tim Tebow, he was just named a Semifinalist for the 2009 William V. Campbell Trophy. The trophy, commonly referred to as the "Academic Heisman," is awarded annually to a senior or graduate student in their final year of eligibility, requires a grade point average of at least 3.2, outstanding football ability and strong leadership and citizenship from the recipient.

"On the heels of our recent announcement to rename our top scholar-athlete award in honor of Bill Campbell, we are incredibly proud to select the next winner from this remarkable group of semifinalists," said NFF Chairman Archie Manning. "As one of the nation's most influential business leaders, Bill Campbell is a powerful example of football's unique ability to build leadership qualities in our young people. The semifinalists for the Campbell Trophy have already built track records that place them squarely in his footsteps."

In other SEC News, the No. 4 LSU Tigers at No. 18 Georgia Bulldogs. I would imaging that most Gator fans will tune in to this game on Saturday afternoon. It will help the Gators if the Tigers can win this game. I'd much rather LSU be considered a strong SEC team, then both LSU and Georgia considered mediocre. The Gators will square off against both these teams in October.

How are you going to celebrate the bye week?
