Just to give everyone an idea of how we got here:
  • Danny Krysalka (RFR 6'2", 185 lbs) and Austin Hardin (RJR 5'10", 198 lbs) were supposed to compete for the kicking position in 2015 after Brooks Abbott (RSO/TR 6'1", 180 lbs) quit football
  • Danny Krysalka died in an accidental shooting this past spring, leaving Hardin as our only scholarship kicker
  • Jorge Powell (RFR 5'10", 165 lbs) walked onto the team and took over for an injured Hardin
  • Powell was injured last week and now the Gators need another backup to Hardin
  • The best candidate would be Brooks Abbott, if he wants to come back to football

How about a soccer player?

How about a soccer player?

Soccer season overlaps with football season, so we would need someone not on the varsity team. If you look at the tryout highlights on the Gator websites, you will see a few backup soccer players and former soccer players.

The Gators did find a former walk-on kicker, Dallas Stubbs. He will be the backup to Austin Hardin.

216 students applied for the kicker position. 75 men and 2 women qualified for tryouts at the indoor practice facility. Only three made it to the final round: three kicks at the Swamp. Former Gator Dallas Stubbs beat out Brooks Abbott, the Virginia Tech transfer that took his roster spot in 2014. Dallas is a local native of Gainesville, so it is good to see him back on the team. Dallas was listed as a punter on the team in 2013, back when Florida had five kicking specialists.
