Florida vs. Alabama - Regular Season This Time

Mr2Bits

The No. 7 Florida Gators head to Tuscaloosa for a battle with the No. 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. The Gators and Tide have played each other the last two years in the SEC Championship Game but not in the regular season. Bama is an 8 point favorite - which seems a little high to me considering they almost lost to Arkansas last week. The game can be viewed nationally on CBS at 8:00 EST Saturday night. Should be a beautiful night for football.

The Gators are coming off their best offensive performance of the year - where they put up nearly 50 points on the then unbeaten Wildcats. Trey Burton score 6 touchdowns in his coming out party. It was great to see him score so many touchdowns, but would have been nice if we saved that surprise for the Tide. Now they will keep on on stopping him in the red zone.

The Gators are a little banged up at running back, but still have a nice crop of guys that can tote the rock. Gillislee, Moody and Demps will all play. If they need to, they can always use Burton in short yardage situations. John Brantley (and Pouncey for that matter) will need to play mistake free ball if the Gators want to win. Alabama has a very strong defense and we must avoid turnovers at all cost.

On a similar note - I think the Gator defense is strong enough to keep the Gators in this game till the end. If they can create a turnover or two (and score) then we have a really good shot at winning the game. The Gators have to pressure the quarterback and force him into touch situations. The Gators also can't afford to give up big plays on the ground. Bama has two stud running backs, including Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram.

With all that said ... I'm going to pick the Gators to win the game and upset the Tide. Final Score 24-21. A late fourth quarter field goal puts the Gators on top.
