Florida will face Charlotte in the Orange Bowl Classic in Sunrise on Dec. 17, according to a source familiar to the event.
Charlotte finished last season 14-19 overall and 9-9 in the Conference USA under second-year coach Mark Price, a former NBA standout guard with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The game also will pit Charlotte fifth-year senior point guard Braxton Ogbueze against his former team. The 6-foot-2 Ogbueze transferred from Florida following his freshman year in 2012-13 after being unable to beat out Scottie Wilbekin for the starting job. Last season, Ogbueze averaged a team-high 14.5 points per game while finishing sixth in the nation in 3-pointers made (109).
Florida is in the process of finalizing its non-conference schedule, the majority of which will be played outside of the O’Connell Center due to $64.5 million interior renovation. Here’s a look at some of the known games to this point.
– Nov. 24-27, AdvoCare Invitational Orlando (field includes Miami, Gonzaga, Iowa State, Quinnipiac, Indiana State, Seton Hall and Stanford).
– Dec. 6 vs. Duke (Jimmy V Classic, New York City)
– Dec. 17 vs. Charlotte (Orange Bowl Classic, Sunrise)
– Jan. 28 at Oklahoma (SEC-Big 12 Challenge)
