D-Robb wouldn’t mind another shot at FSU

Count Florida junior forward Devin Robinson as one who wouldn’t mind a rematch with Florida State this season.

The Gators suffered an 83-78 loss to the Seminoles in Tallahassee on Dec. 11, their third straight loss against their in-state rivals. The loss knocked UF out of the Top 25 and vaulted FSU into the rankings at No. 22.

After Florida bounced back from the loss with an impressive 87-46 win over Charlotte last Saturday at the Orange Bowl Classic, Robinson was asked if he would welcome another shot at FSU.

“I feel like we can beat Florida State, we can beat any team in the country if we play the way that we’re supposed to play,” Robinson said. “If we play again I feel we can give them a run for their money and hopefully get the win.”

It could happen, if both teams reach the NCAA Tournament and their seedings line up. The NCAA Selection Committee ditched its initial rule to avoid regular-season matchups a few years ago in order to preserve the integrity of tseedings (provided teams only played once during the regular season).

Based on going through the first 11 games away from campus with an 8-3 record, Florida’s RPI certainly sits at 4 per NCAA.com’s weekly RPI rankings. FSU’s RPI is 17.

Certainly a 4-5 seed matchup at Orlando’s Amway Arena between Floirda-FSU in March in the Round of 32 isn’t out of the question. But both teams have work ahead of them to make that a reality.

Other notes:

— Former Gator forward Alex Murphy was named Colonial Athletic Association player of the week after leading Northeastern to an 81-73 upset win at Michigan State. Murphy had 18 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals in the win. For the season, the 6-foot-8 Murphy is averaging 15.1 points and 6 rebounds per game.
