`Chiozza questionable for FSU

Florida junior point guard Chris Chiozza is questionable for Sunday’s game against rival Florida State with a thigh inury.

Chiozza suffered the injury during UF’s 84-74 loss to No. 5 Duke on Tuesday night in New York City. He tried to return, but sat out the second half, finishing with just 2 points, 1 assist and 3 personal fouls.

“He didn’t practice yesterday,” Florida coach Mike White said. “I’m not sure if he’ll practice today, he’s got a contusion, charlie horse, whatever you want to call it. And for him, whose game is predicated on speed, it really affected him in the Duke game of course, and his ability to help us, and obviously his ability to practice.”

Before the Duke game, Chiozza was coming off one of the best games of his career, finishing with 16 points, 9 assists and just 1 turnover in UF’s 91-60 win at UNF. For the season, Chiozza is averaging 6.2 points and 3 assists. If Chiozza can’t play Sunday, sophomore KeVaughn Allen and freshman Eric Hester would likely back up Kasey Hill at point guard.

“We’re hoping for the best,” White said. “Hopefully by tomorrow or the following day (Chiozza) can be close to 100 percent where he can come in and help us a little bit. He’s had a pretty good season thus far.”
