Beyond the arc: 3 takeaways from UF’s 83-70 win over Tennessee

Some observations following Florida’s 83-70 win over Tennessee

— Credit Florida senior forward Canyon Barry for accepting and relishing his sixth-man role. Barry put together his second straight productive game off the bench with 15 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists in 23 minutes. The 6-foot-6 Barry is good to have on the floor late in games because he’s smart, poised and can make free throws. It’s not always about who starts, but who finishes.

— Florida centers John Egbunu and Kevarrius Hayes need to be smarter and figure out the fine line between being aggressive and avoiding foul trouble. Egbunu had an ill-advised foul off the ball in the first half. Hayes had a pair of blocked shots, but could only stay on the floor for 15 minutes due to his constant fouling.

— It didn’t seem possible, but Florida was able to recover from a 4 to 10 assist-to-turnover ratio in the first half to finish with a positive assist-to-turnover ratio (13-11) for the game. Still, Florida needs better spacing, ball movement and player movement in halfcourt sets. While Florida has relied on points off turnovers throughout the season, a more disciplined team that takes care of the ball could present UF problems, especially if UF’s halfcourt offense doesn’t improve.
