Some observations following UF’s 73-71 loss at Vanderbilt

— Florida sophomore guard KeVaughn Allen went into a fog and lost his aggressiveness after uncharacteristically missing a pair of free throws to start the second half. Allen went 4 of 8 from the floor in the first half, then just 0 of 2 in the second half. “We’ve got to try to have him be more aggressive at all times,” Florida coach Mike White said.

— Senior point guard Kasey Hill had been a warrior for the Gators all season, but when one of your worst percentage shooters ends up taking the most shots in a game (12), it’s a recipe for disappointment. Hill had a couple of driving layups he took too strong off the backboard down the stretch, which has been an issue throughout his career. It may be time for Florida coach Mike White to consider other options than having his point guard try to drive for a basket down the stretch with the game on the line.

— Lost in the disappointment of the outcome was that Florida junior point guard Chris Chiozza provided another strong showing off the bench with 11 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds and 0 turnovers in 25 minutes. Chiozza was an efficient 3 of 5 from the floor and will be counted on in SEC Tournament, especially if the Gators end up playing three games in three straight days.
