Beyond the arc: 3 takeaways from UF’s 114-95 win over Auburn

Some observations following UF’s 114-95 win over Auburn on Tuesday night:

— Credit Kasey Hill for scoring 11 points and posting a career-high 12 assists in the Auburn win. But Hill also had 4 turnovers, including 3 in the first half, and has nine turnovers over his last two games. Florida had 10 turnovers in the first half, but was able to pull away by taking care of the ball better in the second half with just 3 turnovers. As a team, Florida outscored Auburn 16-12 in points off turnovers.

— With center John Egbunu out with a knee injury midway through the first half against Auburn, it was nice to see senior forward Justin Leon step up with 8 rebounds. Leon and Devin Robinson (6 rebounds) will need to help more on the boards if Egbunu is out for an extended period of time.

— Florida’s mental toughness at the free-throw line on the road has been admirable this season. The Gators went 37 of 42 from the line against Auburn (88.1 percent), a big reason why they were able to keep the game even in the first half and pull away in the second half. Florida did a good job drawing fouls as well, getting into the bonus against Auburn at the 11 minute mark of the first half and the 6:38 mark of the second half.
