Some observations following UF’s 81-72 win at Arkansas:
• Florida junior forward Devin Robinson is playing with poise and maturity and has learned how to take advantage of his athletic ability on both ends of the floor. Robinson had three first half dunks in traffic. But perhaps the most impressive sign of Robinson’s ability to move on to the next play came when the 6-foot-8 Chesterfield, Va., native sprinted down the floor to block a layup attempt in transition by Arkansas guard Dusty Hannahs shortly after missing a pair of free throw attempts. “Devin he’s just a much more mature, much more consistent, harder worker, more serious about his craft than he was a year ago,” Florida coach Mike White said. “He’s made a huge jump … he’s one of our better defenders now.”
• The Gators did a nice job valuing the basketball in a road tough environment against an Arkansas team that brings pressure. Florida only had two first half turnovers and finished with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 13 to 9. Point guards Kasey Hill and Chris Chiozza combined to finish with 10 assists and just 4 turnovers.
• Florida had a little slippage from the free-throw line, going 12 of 21 (57.1 percent) against the Razorbacks. Kasey Hill missed the front end of a one-and-one in the first half and Kevarrius Hayes went just 2 of 5 from the line.The Gators had been improved from the free-throw line entering SEC play, going 74.4 percent through their first 12 games. Some of it could be chalked up to a tough road environment, but Florida will need to show poise and concentration from the line in upcoming league road games in January and February.
