Reggie Nelson came to Gainesville as one of the FHSAA All-Century Team. He attended Coffeyville College for his redshirt freshman year in 2004 and earned his associate's degree before playing free safety for Urban Meyer's Florida Gators in 2005 and 2006. He immediately made an impact by registering 46 tackles, 4 sacks, and a forced fumble. In the 2006 BCS Championship year, he recorded 51 tackles, 6 interceptions, and 5 passes defended on his way to earning Consensus All American, first team All SEC, team MVP honors, and the 2006 Jack Tatum Award as the nation's top defensive back. He was selected as the 21st overall pick of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
