The Florida Gators finished out the 2009-2010 men’s basketball regular season on Sunday afternoon with a 66-74 loss to the No. 3 Kentucky Wildcats. No one was giving the Gators a chance to win that game in Lexington, but it still sucks to see our team close off the season with three straight losses. That is definitely not going to sit well in the minds of the NCAA Tourney voters. The Gators will now travel to Nashville on March 11 for the SEC Tournament. They’ll have to win a game or two here to ensure a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

The Florida Gators men’s basketball team got back on the winning side of things this weekend with a 72-58 victory over the LSU Tigers on Saturday night. The Gators are now 1-2 in SEC play and head on the road to Fayetteville on Thursday for a game against the Arkansas Razorbacks. The Gators played as a collective unit – in fact,all five starters scored double digit in points. It’s amazing what happens when you play team ball.

The Florida Gators men’s basketball team is on the road tonight in Jacksonville to face the JU Dolphins. The Gators are currently 7-0 and ranked 13/17 in the country. Florida leads the all-time series between the two schools, 27-4, including eight straight. The last time they met was in the 2009 NIT Tournament.

About two weeks ago, reports came out that Gator basketball F/C Alex Tyus was going to transfer from UF. He had spoken to and received permission from Head Coach Billy Donovan to be relieved from the University of Florida. Tyus was apparently upset with his lack of playing time at the small forward spot, a position where Tyus would likely fit if he has NBA dreams. However, just two days ago Tyus had a change of heart and decided to stay with the Florida Gators for the 2009-2010 season.

The Florida Gators (22-9, 9-7) played poorly down the stretch, but are coming off a big home win against rival Kentucky. The Gators have a legitimate shot of winning the Southeastern Conference Tournament which begins in Tampa at the St. Pete Times Forum Thursday. The Gators play their first SEC Tournament game Thursday at 9:45 pm against Arkansas (16-15, 2-14).
This is the fourth meeting between the two schools in SEC Tournament play. The Gators have won the two most recent meetings (don’t forget those were the two NCAA Gator Championship …
