Beyond the arc: 3 takeways from Florida’s 61-55 loss to Alabama

Some observations following Florida’s 61-55 loss to Alabama:

– The book is out for Florida opponents — take away Florida senior forward Dorian Finney-Smith and make someone else on the Gators beat you. Still, Florida has to find ways to get Finney-Smith more involved early in the game and the 6-foot-8 senior needs to become more determined to spring himself free and create his own scoring opportunities. The clock is ticking on Finney-Smith’s career, and he needs to get back to producing at an All-SEC level for the Gators to close the season strong.

– Florida center John Egbunu had five offensive rebounds, but needs to take the ball up stronger and finish on second-chance opportunities. At 6-foot-11, 249 pound, Egbunu is one of the most physically imposing centers in the SEC, but needs to play to his body size on a more consistent basis.

– Florida’s ball movement was too stagnant on Saturday night against Alabama. Too many possessions deteriorated into one-on-one drives rather than working off each other to get a better shot. Five assists isn’t going to get it done against when facing an SEC team.
