The Sunday Blog, Week Five

The Sunday Blog comes at you after another late night at the Swamp and a lot of hoarse people wandering around Gainesville today.

1. I have been critical of Demarcus Robinson for his lack of toughness and big plays. So let me say today, the kid played one heck of a game Saturday night. Robinson has eight catches for 98 yards and a score and made some great catches on the night. I thought it was his best game as a Gator, even better than his 15-catch performance against Kentucky last year.

2. Lost in the blowout was that Ole Miss actually had more first downs than Florida 23-18. Florida hit more big plays and had more short fields. That was one thing that was impressive about Florida’s defense — that the Gators limited Ole Miss big plays. The longest plays for the Rebels was 23 yards. And Florida’s plus-four in the turnover margin was a huge part of the win. Who would have ever thought that gator fans would be bragging about an offense that is now ranked 75th in the nation. After the last four years, that’s quite an improvement.

3. Twitter was in the news over the weekend. There was a Texas player (freshman Kris Boyd) retweeting a Texas A&M fan’s question about transferring. There was A&M’s Ricky Seals-Jones tweeting about his ejection for targeting. Oh, both of these occurred during their games. And there were fans attacking Charlie Strong and Cardale Jones on Twitter. I don’t think we are far from all coaches banning players from using Twitter during the season, but you can’t do anything about the fans, who get a dose of courage from anonymous attacks.

4. When the Kardashians took a 14-0 lead over Arkansas on Saturday, I said in the press box that the Razorbacks had the Vols right where they wanted them. I was just kidding. But another blown lead and another mess to clean up in Knoxville. Two fan bases who are in the jar collide when Georgia and Tennessee play Saturday.
