Some observations following Florida’s 57-56 win over Arkansas:
– Credit Florida for making plays down the stretch to win, but the Gators limped to the finish again offensively, scoring just four points in the final 6:24 of the game. Florida coach Billy Donovan felt like the Gators got good looks, but forward Dorian Finney-Smith and point guard Chris Chiozza missed open 3-point attempts in the final two minutes off good ball movement.”The thing I try to look at is what kind of shots are we getting, are we getting good shots or is it just this laboring or we’re shooting challenged jump shots, we’re not getting post touches,” Donovan said. “It’s not that way. I mean Eli Carter is wide open and he doesn’t hit the backboard, Kasey Hill is in the lane and you just have got to hit a layup. There are times, yeah, we’re going to have to deal with that and do some different things and play defense to keep us in the game.”
– Florida was good on the boards, outrebounding Arkansas 39-36. Dorian Finney-Smith had a season-high 9 rebounds, while point guard Kasey Hill had a career-high 8 rebounds. Florida also outscored Arkansas 16-13 in second chance points.
— The Gators were shaky at times against Arkansas’ press, allowing the Hogs to score 24 points off their 14 turnovers. At times, Florida broke the Arkansas press, but Donovan was disappointed that the Gators didn’t attack the bucket for more easy transition buckets. The Gators only had 4 transition points and could have easily had 10 to 15 with a more aggressive mindset and a better ability to finish around the basket.
