Beyond the arc: 3 takeaways from Florida’s loss to Georgetown

Some thoughts following Florida’s 66-65 overtime loss to Georgetown:

– A puzzling aspect of Florida’s struggles offensively has been the lost shooting touch of junior guard Michael Frazier II. After a 2-of-8 performance from beyond the arc against Georgetown, Frazier dropped t0 31.4 percent for the season, well bellow his career average of 45.3 percent. While Florida coach Billy Donovan was concerned with how Frazier would respond to more defensive attention this season, Frazier missed some wide open 3s in transition against the Hoyas.

– Let’s see if sophomore Kasey Hill can build off how he played down the stretch against Georgetown. Hill didn’t attempt his first shot until the 14-minute mark of the second half but wound up with 8 points combined in the second half and overtime. Hill used his speed to make some plays with the ball in his hand and even hit a mid-range shot to keep Georgetown’s defense honest. Hill needs to hit more of those mid-range shots to build confidence.

— The development of Florida sophomore center Chris Walker is going to take some time. He appears more ready for the NBDL than the NBA at this point. Walker went 1 of 6 from the floor and appeared at times too determined to get to the basket with the ball in his hands instead of letting the game come to him through his physical gifts. The 6-foot-10 McDonald’s All-American was 1 of 6 from the floor, which tells you how badly he forced shots in a high-level game.
