Gators-William & Mary to tip at 6 p.m.

Florida announced on Thursday that its season opener Nov. 14 against William & Mary will tip at 6 p.m. at the O’Connell.

The game will be part of a season-opening doubleheader aired on the SEC Network. Kentucky and Grand Canyon will follow with an 8 p.m. tip.

William & Mary returns four starters from a team that finished 20-12 last season and narrowly missed the NCAA Tournament. Florida has won 23 straight season openers, including all 18 under current coach Billy Donovan.

Other notes:

– Kenny Boynton has found a new home overseas. UF’s second-leading scorer in school history (2,033 career points) is playing overseas for Boulogne-sur-Mer in the French ProA League. Boynton, who played last season in Israel, is averaging 22.5 points over his last two games.

– An interesting debate as to whether Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski is using his involvement in Team USA as a recruiting tool arose after a story by respected Yahoo.com basketball reporter Adrian Wojnarowski broached the topic. Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim, an assistant with Team USA, called the article off-base, then brought Kentucky coach John Calipari into the fray. According to Boeheim, Calipari had complained about potential recruiting advantages Coach K and himself enjoy by being connected with Team USA. Calipari then backtracked via Twitter, saying any recruiting advantages that Coach K and Boeheim enjoy are deserved. Interestingly enough, Boeheim pointed out that Donovan has enjoyed no recruiting advantage from being involved with Team USA from 2011-2014. Donovan coached Julius Randle in the 2012 US 18-under team but was unable to convince him to sign with the Gators over Kentucky.
