Prather accepts invite with Suns

Former Florida forward Casey Prather is not headed overseas. At least not yet.

Prather has accepted an invite to Phoenix Suns training camp as an undrafted free agent in hopes of making the roster.

The 6-foot-6 Prather averaged a team-high 13.8 points per game for the Gators last season, helping lead UF to its fifth Final Four in school history. Prather played over the summer with the Atlanta Hawks summer league team, but after taking a call from his agent, accepted the invite with Phoenix.

“It’s a good opportunity,” Prather said. “They’re a team that likes to get up and down the floor.”

That fits Prather’s style, but the Jackson, Tenn., native still faces long odds making the Phoenix roster as an undrafted free agent. The Suns took four picks in the 2014 draft, including standout North Carolina State small forward T.J. Warren and Syracuse point guard Tyler Ennis in the first round.

Prather and senior teammates Scottie Wilbekin, Patric Young and Will Yeguete all went unpicked in the 2014 NBA draft. Wilbekin signed a contact to play overseas in Australia, while Young, a surprise draft snub, signed a two-year deal with the New Orleans Pelicans and should make the team out of training camp.

Here’s more information on Prather’s invite with the Suns.

Other notes:

Florida released its updated 2014-15 roster this week. Of note, sophomore 6-10 forward Chris Walker is up to 220 pounds after arriving at UF a rail-thin 202 pounds. Also, junior forward Dorian Finney-Smith is up to 218 pounds after playing last season at 212 pounds.
