Florida gets third decommitment in nine days

For the third time in the last nine days, a 2015 prospect previously committed to the Florida Gators has changed course and taken back his verbal pledge. On Sunday, three-star athlete Jalen Julius (Miami, FL) officially reopened his recruitment. Florida was recruiting Julius as a cornerback, though as he mentioned on Twitter back on July 15, “I want to play [wide receiver] at the next level I feel like I would be a dominant player at that position.
CRAP what is going on?

No worries. We want athletes that are dedicated and committed to Florida. I have spoken with a few young athletes who are not only indecisive, but also using the commitment and decommitment process to gain name recognition or to "bargain". Remember that these kids only have a few chips to play in the game.

Yeah, it's early--and anyway, we've been picking up some studs, 4- and 5-start players at positions-of-need, the last few days. Got a feeling that long as this season goes fairly well (at least well enough for Muschamp to be retained), we'll be fine, maybe even BETTER than "fine", come Feb. 2015 and NSD.

So far we have only gotten 2 - 3 star players in return. Of course we only lost 3 star players who think they are good enough to play immediately without proving anything on the field against the big boys.

I'm just going by news (in local sports sections) out here of several 4- and 5-star prospects (at the least, so it's been written, a RB, a WR, and a "stud 5-star OT" have been noted as "UF-pickups for 2015" in the last week and a half/2 weeks of year-round rabid, detailed college football reporting here in Longhornland)...I don't get too caught up in this sort of thing nowadays, especially this early--before the pending season has even started. Given the nature of this "game" (recruiting), how it's played by and for the media and the kids themselves, I just don't see the point of getting too excited or worried, regardless. We've got a talented, hard-working staff concentrating year round on this part of the program's future success; our team takes care of business preparing for and performing in the season, actual games this fall, the rest of it'll tend to work out just fine.

Linebacker Adonis Thomas has committed to Florida over Alabama. That's two straight days with a commit for the Gators.

So, you throw out that little tease without giving us the benefit of your vast wisdom, knowledge and experience? What is the magic number for Muschamp to be retained? Inquiring minds want to know. My magic number is 8 in the "W" column with a vast improvement in the "O". Less than that and it's adios.

OK--not so sure about my "vast wisdom" (lol), but from what I can gather (AND, like you, my own feelings are about on par with it), 8 wins is the Pass/Fail line here--including at LEAST one win out of The Three Big Ones (Bama, Dogs, Moles), a good showing in all three getting him and his staff back for another couple or three seasons with the promising collection of talent they're putting together for next year and beyond. Muschamp and staff do actually believe they're about to pull a bit of a "surprise" on the nation of college football fans, expect to be somewhat better than "competitive", believe that they'll be in every game, have a chance to beat every one of their opponents--including the last two national champs. That includes a pervasive "our place, their place, don't matter--it's us against the world" mindset that they'll need. He seems so far to have his staff and team with the right attitude in general heading into the final weeks before embarking on one of the toughest schedules in the country this fall: focused, loose-but-angry, working hard and aiming at using that "chip-on-the-shoulder/under-the-radar" mentality to hit mid-season form early, and go from there. We should have a pretty good idea of how good we really are, and how far it can take us, by the end of September or so.

Gotta believe Muschamp is thinking, deep down in his secret soul, mind and heart-of-hearts, "Man, my D's gonna be killer by midseason. We should be able to run the ball long as its not ALL we do on offense. Just let Driskel stay healthy, start well and finally perform out there when it counts this season, a couple of receivers step forward, and we get to really BUILD something in 2015 and beyond...Make 'em all but forget everything that happened, and DIDN'T happen, in the YST ("Years Since Tebow")..."

Regarding above:
(...and for the umteenth time, lets remember why he could think that--and why he nonetheless finds himself at a crossroads, "on the hot seat", or however you wanna describe it. The bottom fell out last season mainly due to injury, yes, but with an already anemic-and-getting-worse offense over the previous several seasons since he got here, and even the defense looking like it was starting to quit on him late-season, considering those injuries it may be right that he got another chance here in 2014, but it was only a "partial pass"--and likewise rightly so: On balance, even with the tougher schedule this team should be able to do many of the things last year's never got a chance to. Maybe not a championship, but coming on strong and steady, a threat in every game, more and more so as the season goes on. We're just not gonna accept mediocrity, and shouldn't.)

I just want them to be fun to watch again. That would go a long way towards allaying my reservations about our head ball coach. Naturally, they still have to win 8.
