Any topic seems to be fair game in the offseason, so why not the college coaches’ hot seat list for 2010?
Based in part on how their respective teams fared in 2009, as well as basing my opinion in part on the list compiled by the website http://www.coacheshotseat.com, I’ve come up with my own Fickle Four for the 2010 season and I’ll tell you why.
At the head of my list of the Fickle Four is none other than……..
(1) RON ZOOK, Illinois. Based on the fact that he’s had back-to-back mediocre …
I love The Players. Living in Jacksonville, I have the opportunity every year to attend The Players and watch the world’s best golfers complete. Usually my wife and I just follow some of the big names like Tiger, Phil and Furyk. This year it will probably be different, I think we’ll spread out some and watching a lot of the younger guys and see more golf. Maybe we’ll even follow a few of the Gators on the course right now. There are four former Gators playing in The Players: Camilo Villegas, Brian Gay, Mark Calcavecchia, and Chris Couch.
Now that it’s been a week since the NFL draft, I’m really feeling the offseason start to set in – I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m already anxious for Florida football to start up again this fall. Still, I have a chance to get caught up on some other things at home that need my attention before the season starts back up again.
I was VERY impressed with the NFL draft this year, especially where the Gators were concerned. Much to the contrary of what …
Nine football players from the University of Florida were drafted by NFL teams during the 2010 NFL Draft – none lower than the 5th round. The Gators had three first round picks – Joe Haden, Maurkice Pouncey and Tim Tebow. Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots drafted the most Gators of any team with 3. It was no doubt a star year for the Florida Gators and Urban Meyers first full recruiting class.
The first round of the 2010 NFL Draft was last night, with rounds 2-3 being aired Friday night and 4-7 on Saturday. Joe Haden may have been the top Gator picked (#7 by Cleveland), but the night was all about Tim Tebow – are you surprised? In addition to Haden and Tebow, former Gator center Maurkice Pouncey was also picked in the first round by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Let’s take a quick look at the night and what will come in the next 6 rounds.
Florida Gators third baseman Austin Maddox was named the SEC Freshman of the Week today after killing the Kentucky Wildcats over the past few games. We don’t talk a lot of baseball on this site, but it’s very important to note just how good Austin Maddox is. This guy is something special.
The Florida Gators concluded Spring Practice just a few days ago and head coach Urban Meyer couldn’t be happier with where the team is at right now. “We identified some players today,” Meyer said after the annual Orange and Blue Game. The Gators are replacing a lot of starters on defense and it was certainly noticeable at times during the game. Meyer is confident though that the young guys can step in and play.
Gang, it’s been a LONG week and I’ve been jonesing for this day to come. Wish I could be heading to Hoggetowne for the O&B game tomorrow, but due to circumstances beyond my control I’m home-bound this year. Still I’m planning to follow the game online (wish ESPN was televising it); one of the most popular Gator sites is carrying live updates from what I’ve heard.
Glad to see Coach Meyer’s enjoying himself and having fun coaching the Gators; based on a speech he made this week to the team reiterating …
With the Orange & Blue Debut on Saturday, the Gators are in full swing. And so is Urban Meyer. This year’s spring schedule has produced some stand-outs and some controversy (as there always is in the spotlight). I’m so glad that everybody finally stopped bickering about rights and wrongs, and it boiled down finally to X’s and O’s.
Though the injuries are piling up and starting to show the Gators’ lack of depth, true freshmen are getting a chance to show that they can make an impact as well.
Florida Gators Men’s Basketball junior forward will submit his name into the NBA Draft. By submitting his name into the draft without hiring an agent, he will still maintain his NCAA eligibility should he decide to withdraw his name at a later date. Basically this lets Tyus get a feel of where he might be drafted – if he’s a projected first rounder, I’d expect him to leave for the NBA.
The annual Florida Gators Spring Game, known as the Orange & Blue Game, is Saturday April 10 in Gainesville, Florida. Florida fans have been waiting since the Sugar Bowl for a taste of Gator football. The Gators lost a lot of starters following the 2009 season, so we have a ton of new faces and names you will want to learn. But the biggest Gator everyone will be there to see is the new quarterback, John Brantley. If you’re headed to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium for the game there are a couple of things you should know.
