Will Grier: A way-too-early analysis of what could have been

Will Grier 2017
1 2017-09-03 West Virginia Neutral Site Virginia Tech L 31 53 58.5% 371YDS 3TD 1INT 132.2RAT/ 77.0QBR

CUM 2 Games 50-78 723YDS 8TD 1INT 196.3RAT/ 87.5QBR

The trend here is that Will Grier performs well when he is not running for his life behind a porous offensive line. In games where his QBR was below 75 or so, he was sacked or hit repeatedly. We can speculate on play calling and run support, but one thing that stands out is that Grier performs better behind a better offensive line.

If he would have stayed at UF in 2016, he likely would have stepped in in week 6 or 7 and given Florida a much better chance against FSU and Alabama.

Cam then Will, we got a knack for kicking out great qb's.

Keep in mind that Cam and Will did this to themselves. Cam also has a bazillion parking tickets, and was suspected of cheating in class. There are rumors that Will was also into some other stuff, but I refuse to believe those rumors and I will not repeat it here.

Florida just has a higher standard of behavior than, say, FSU.

I have been harboring both of the above thoughts for some time, deepening game by game...But HOPED we might be able to leave the "can't hold the few good ones we GET" thing behind if only we got ourselves an O-line, stayed healthy--and built a TEAM of generally quality individuals who wouldn't shoot themselves in the foot and our program in the back...
And THAT falls on the back of the COACHes, especially Coach Mac, who came in KNOWING the gamut of irresponsibility AND mistakes he was being brought IN to correct. Unless things turn around NOW, and the rest of the season somehow turns out a veritable parade of victory and growing dominance, this will be a throw-away season--and he WILL NOT DESERVE any further chance here.
But if you saw his latest presser after the storm-canceled game, well...
"NOT BLOODY LIKELY!!!"
I saw a man already defeated. I mean, not even Charlie Strong looked that lost and dejected post game in those last few weeks here in Austin--and he KNEW he was gone (and a lot far more "unfairly" so I think than in Mac's case, btw).
So, less painful to look ahead with something like, well, if not "hope", at least "hopefullness". Best name I've heard so far is Chip Kelly. No idea if he would WANT it, but if there's any chance at all, gotta ante up "Saban/near-NFL money". Whatta ya think?

I'd hate to know what it was

Me, I WANNA know. I've had a lotta Texas fans I know here ask me about that, why he left. That, and how Luke Del Rio fell from starting as our most experienced QB, to 3rd-string behind TWO newcomers.
All I got for 'em are mostly just impressions and opinions, in BOTH cases.

I'd like to know for curiosity, but I don't think he's telling.
