Should Gator fans forgive MJD?

As you know the Jags RB Maurice Jones-Drew took a shot at Urban Meyer while taking a shot at Jay Cutler. Including myself, we took shots at him for attacking Coach Meyer. Now since Urban Traitor is now a suckeyes coach, should we forgive MJD?

You know, I'd forgotten about that...if possible, put up his comments again for us all to consider--hey, I've been wrong before on occasion, and in this matter at least, I am more than willing to reconsider, with hindsight.
Certainly I should know how he MIGHT have been slammed prematurely: When I began to lose confidence in Meyer myself during the 2010 season (the one right after his "flip flop"), saw mounting signs of the "disconnect" out there, and his apparent lack of involvement, enthusiasm, even full awareness of the practical details of what had just transpired in losing efforts, I began to suggest, then to insist, that it was probably time for him to step aside as our coach--and got bounced around pretty hard by a certain portion of Gator Nation for it at the time, though it never was a majority (most could see the signs themselves to some extent) and even that minority steadily shrunk as the season played out to its end.
My main point came down to one virtually every Gator could rally around:
"No one person is more important than the Program. NO one is above it!" We're not inclined towards any "Cult of Personality" here at UF. We can love our leaders, flaws and all--and we don't run away from those either. What we do ask, demand really, is that our loyalty and love is returned--and don't talk about things like honor unless you mean it, as in "LIVE IT". That left us OK with Spurrier, though less so as time goes on given his eventual choices and destination (but we never "worshipped" him in the first place: we just really liked him, were thankful when he came and proud of what he accomplished, and are used to the idea of having mixed feelings about him now). Right or wrong, he has remianed the same guy. It doesn't feel like he lied to us.
That's not the case with Meyer. I understand why the same folks who got mad at me for suggesting he step down are among the most angry at him now. They placed him in HIGH regard; he'd talked of loyalty and honor and "always being a Gator"...even when he DID "retire" he insisted he was "still a part of and would always BE a part of the Gator Family", and they believed it. Hell, even MY biggest concern was he'd cast a large shadow across the efforts of the new Head Coach and his staff--not that he'd betray every claim, promise and rule of ethics he in particular had made such a big deal about in building this image that he had as a kind of "Dean of Coaches" (interesting that he is replacing another guy who'd built himself up in similar fashion, only to recently fall from grace).
So let's revisit Maurice's comments. Were they just out-of-the-blue mean-spirited, aimed at things that had nothing to do with any of the valid issues WE now have with Urban Meyer? Or did we just "go off" 'cause it was anti-Meyer, which at the time we took as the same as "anti-Gator"? If the latter, I say we let him off the hook...

I'm unaware of any comments MJD made about Meyer, or heard them and brushed them off. I never saw Meyer as a Gator. He's an Ohio guy, Buckeyes, Michigan, Notre Dame, those are the programs he's held in the highest regard. Muschamp, being from the southeast and even living in Gainesville as a child, is far more a Gator than Meyer will ever be. I'll admit I'm still on the Kerwin Bell wagon and hope to see him as HC some time in our future.

Jones-Drew made comments I think in after the Super Bowl during the debate if Jay Cutler was faking his injury or it wasn't that serious in the NFC title game against the Packers. He said something like "He [Cutler] pull a Urban Meyer, when the tough get going, quit," Sure it's somewhere online. Stupid comments especially from a guy who plays in city where there's a lot of Gators fan (and probably Gators fans outnumbered the Jaguars fans). Sad part I'm sure some Gators fan that will agree with that statement especially since he's the suckeyes coach.

You know man, I remember now--and in my confused feelings at the time I took it as "anti-Gator" too--but here's the thing: I'd have to say that I probably need to actually hear him say it, get the tone and context right again, 'cause otherwise, I have to admit, my first reaction NOW (in just reading and remembering it) is to have no problem with it, as a "Meyer put-down"-line.

Oh, okay I remember this. I do remember being a little peeved but didn't pay it no mind. Probably because I knew there was some truth to it.
