Despite hosting a Super Regional in Gainesville, Florida, the Gator baseball team will not advance to the College World Series. Their disappointing end to the season came on Sunday when Southern Miss scored three runs in the eighth inning to give them a 7-6 lead. The Gators could not rally in the bottom of the eighth or the ninth inning. The Gators lost the series 0-2 and their season ended.

The Gator baseball season is winding down. The tournaments that determine who goes to the College World Series and who goes home start this week. The University of Florida baseball team learned on Monday afternoon that it was awarded the eighth national seed for the 2009 NCAA Baseball Tournament that begins on Friday at McKethan Stadium.

We are just a little bit past the mid-season mark in college baseball. The No. 22 Florida Gators are 23-12 (Overall) and 9-6 in the SEC. The are led by Preston Tucker (who is putting up some monster power numbers) and Josh Adams. The Gators are on a nice little hot streak right now, having won 4 of their last five against three different opponents.
The future looks bright for the Florida Gators. Both Preston Tucker and Anthony DeSclafani (the Gator best pitcher right now) are freshman.
