The Florida Gators currently have 16 Redshirt Freshman on the roster. These are guys who were in their first year at Florida in 2009, but either did not play enough or were injured and qualified for a redshirt. This means the 2009 season did not count as a year of eligibility for them. Of the 16 redshirt freshman on the roster, there are five key guys we need to keep an eye on.

Just a few days after making their trip to Omaha, the Florida Gators baseball team is packing it up and heading home to Gainesville. In the double elimination College World Series, the Gators were the first team to gte knocked out after suffering a loss to UCLA on Saturday and another loss to FSU last night. The Seminoles got up early on the Gators and despite putting up 3 runs in the 9th it just wasn’t enough to overcome the Noles. The Gators lost by a final score of 8-5.

The Florida Gators didn’t fare so well in their opening matchup against the UCLA Bruins on Saturday night. UCLA starting pitcher Trevor Bauer struck out 11 Gators in seven innings and set the UCLA season record on his way to an 11-3 win. The Gators were constantly giving up 1-3 runs every inning and just couldn’t produce any of their own. The Gators were out hit 18 to 6 – I don’t know what happened to our bats that night. Thankfully the CWS is double elimination. The Florida Gators will play the Florida State Seminoles on Monday afternoon in an elimination game.

The Florida Gators will touchdown in Omaha, Nebraska today and being preparations for their opening round game against UCLA on Saturday night. The last time the Florida Gators were in the College World Series they made it all the way to the National Championship series against Texas. The Gators ultimately lost, but it was a memorable experience… especially having to go through the Cornhuskers on the way. The Gators are hot right now, having won 19 of their last 23 games. Will they keep it alive?

University of Florida Gators football player Frankie Hammond Jr. was arrested earlier Sunday morning on DUI charges – he reportedly had two open bottles of whiskey in his car. Officer Samuel Delucca says Hammond was driving faster than 45 miles per hour in a 20-mph zone while swerving on Gale Lemerand Drive on Florida’s campus at 2:09 a.m. The Gators have suspended him from all team activities.
