Men’s Basketball Still Undefeated

The No. 13 Florida Gators Men’s Basketball team defeated the Florida A&M Rattlers last night by a final score of 80-59. The win improved their record to 7-0 and will help them inch closer towards a Top 10 ranking. Who would have thought a team without Nick Calathes would be so good this season.

The Florida Gators are fresh off wins over Florida State (a team that has dominated the Gators over the past 3-4 years) and the No. 2 ranked Michigan State Spartans. Florida’s next test comes on December 10 when they travel to Tampa and play the Syracuse Orange – a game that will be aired on ESPN.

Something surprising to me is that the Gators are so well balanced on offense this year. They have five players averaging double digit points, and not one of them at more than 13.7 ppg (Kenny Boynton). This means they are spreading the ball around. We don’t have one player that is expected to score all the points. The Gators also have one of the best 6th men in the country in Chandler Parsons. He comes off the bench ever game, but still averages more playing time than Macklin and Tyus.

This could end up being an exciting year for the Gators basketball team. Once football season winds down, we will begin to cover hoops exclusively.
