Brand Spikes Eye Gouge

Everyone is talking about the Brandon Spikes eye gouge incident. You can’t turn on sports talk radio without hearing a hostor calling talking about it. Some people defend Spikes, saying it happens all the time and it was just unfortunate that Spikes got caught, while others say it is the worst thing ever and he should be kicked off the team.

Urban Meyer elected to suspend Brandon Spikes for the first half of the Vanderbilt game coming up this weekend. It’s pretty much Meyer’s way of saying what happened is part of the game but that since the media is all up in arms he will suspend Spikes to maintain a positive image for the program.

I think a lot of people are blowing this out of proprtion. Had spikes been caught doing this during the game, he would have got a 15-yard penalty and that would be the end of it. In case you missed it, here’s the video.

Was I the only one that saw all the dirty plays Georgia made? No, it was not right what Brandon Spikes did but lets be fair and talk about what the Georgia players did too. I’ve never seen a team less disciplined than Georgia.
