Florida vs. Georgia Rivalry
Living in Jacksonville, I know first-hand the impact and excitement the annual Florida Gators vs. Georgia Bulldogs game brings to the city. College football fans are like rabid animals that week. The RVs coming rolling in on Monday and the college kids all arrive Thursday and Friday night… ready to party and attend one of the biggest games in college football. CBS has added the Florida Gators’ Oct. 31 game against Georgia to its national schedule of SEC games, with kickoff at 3:30 p.m. Fans around the country will get to watch this rivalry at least one more year.
The Gators’ annual showdown with their Eastern Division rival will again be at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. But that might not be the case moving forward. Georgia has brought up once again moving the game to a home-home. They complain that Jacksonville is not a neutral site. They’ve lost something like 13 of the last 16 games played here, so you can understand why they are not happy. One of their biggest complaints is travel. Georgia has to fly to Jacksonville, while Florida only has an hour and a half bus ride.
Still when the players suit up and run into the stadium, it is always split down the middle 50-50. Half the stadium is orange/blue and the other half is red/black. There is no home field advantage when in the stadium. If the two teams move to a home-home, the rivalry will lose some of its luster. Fans won’t travel to the opposing stadium because there won’t be many seats available.
What’s your take on the annual Florida va. Georgia game? Are you happy its in Jacksonville, or would you like to see a home-home?

Moving to a home and home schedule would kill one of the greatest rivalries in college football. The reason the game is so great is because you know any fan that travels for this game is a true fan. UGA has had the shorter end of the stick in the last decade or so but that has nothing to do with this games location. KEEP IT IN JACKSONVILLE!!!
NO WAY should this game be switched to a home and home. This game being played here is just plain tradition to a great rivalry.I have been a Gator fan for 33 years and this is truly a traditional rivalry at a traditional site for this game. All joking and teasing aside, (about us whipping them year in and year out), this game always has special meaning and for the long time fans, is just where this game deserves to be played. It has that bowl game flavor to it, and like many have said, there is no home field advantage. The sold out crowd is always split equal, and if UGA thinks that Gator fans won’t travel there, well they’re wrong! Don’t break tradition, don’t ruin this rivalry…..LEAVE THIS ONE ALONE! LEAVE IT IN JACKSONVILLE! PLEASE!!!
I am a Gators season ticket holder, but i never come close to having enough “points” to be able to purchase Florida – Georgia game tickets. If this were a home and home series, at least i’d get to attend the game every other year.
Being a Gator Fan, and an Atlanta area resident, I just want to say why this should not happen:
1. Atlanta has no space for the big game.
Downtown Atlanta, is bad for the SEC Championship, I do not believe it can accommodate the cocktail party.
2. Playing Foobtall on the river is better, to hell with playing in Phillips Arena.
3. No Jacksonville Landing, Atlanta does not have a separate area for people who want to watch the game but who did not have tickets, the peachtree mall is lame, and outside of that there is no place like the Jacksonville Landing.
4. Atlanta sucks for football period, Just ask Alabama and Clemson Fans, their game was congested, barely played at local restaurants (They actually had a North Carolina on at the place I was at.)
5. Jacksonville has events for the Cocktail Party for the entire week of the game, there are no such events for the SEC Championship, nor where there any type of events for Alabama VS. Clemson
$20 million of mostly Georgia money go to Jax every year.
$20 million of mostly Florida money could go to Atlanta every other year.
So why do we continue this madness?
Move the game now.
Why wasn’t Georgia complaining about the location of the game when they were winning the game almost every year?
coming from a dawg fan here.KEEP IT IN J’VILLE!!!! there is no other feeling in the world, than going to jax on early sat morning and partyin all day and then headin over to the stadium for kickoff, plus moving would take away some of the emotion from this game.
(plus j’ville is only 25 minutes from my house haha)
go dawgs.
Just leave it in Jacksonville, dawgs are whining too much, screw them. Actuaaally, i don’t care if they move it, cause the Gators are gonna win anyway (duh) & yeah, i agree w/ Robert Wilson, why weren’t the bulldogs whining about the location of the game when they were winning them almost every year?! hahaha
GO GATORS!!! all gator haters, u know what? you hate them cause you’re Gator BAIT!!!! TEBOW=SUPERMAN! hell yes
