Gator Fall to Penn State in NIT Quarterfinals

The University of Florida men’s basketball season has officially come to a close. The Gators fell to the Penn State Nittany Lions in the NIT Quarterfinals by a score of 62-71. The Gators finished the season with an over 25-11 record. Looks pretty good on paper, but not making the NCAA Tourney means this entire season was a loss.

The Gators were led by Erving Walker (16 points) and Alex Tyus (15 points). Remember I said the Gators would have to shoot well from the perimeter to have a shot at winning? Well, they hit only 2-14 three-pointers in the second half, giving them a 3-pt shooting percentage of 22.7% for the game. That’s just not good enough to win a Quarterfinal Game.

Billy Donovan has a lot of work to do this offseason. The additions of a full-time Kadji, Vargas and Macklin will give the Gators some big guys down low, but that’s not enough to win.
