Gators Send Gamecocks Home With a Black Eye

Whoever set the line (Gators by 22.5) on this game must note have watched Florida’s previous two games. Kentcuky was the best defense in the SEC when the Gators played them 2 weeks ago. The Wildcats ran away with a tail between their legs. Then last week, Vanderbilt supposedly had the best defense in the SEC. The Gators beat them down too. Then today when Steve Spurrier took the field, he brought with him the “best defense in the SEC”. How did those boys perform this evening? They got blown out by 50!

The Florida Gators embarrased the South Carolina Gamecocks with a final score of 56-6. “A loss is a loss, whether it’s by one point or 50 points,” said Spurrier, who fell to 81-9 as a player and coach at Florida Field. “Sometimes getting your butt beat real good is better than a one-pointer or two-pointer.”

It was a rainey, miserable game to watch in the stands… but for the players, they loved it. The Gators were able to rack up 346 yards rushing and 173 yards passing. Something tells me South Carolina’s defensive rank is going to plummet. Percy Harvin led the way with 167 yards rushing (80 of which came on one play). He was followed by Rainey, Moody and Demps who all managed to put up 40+ yards rushing.

Tebow played a great game as usual. He connected with Deonte Thompson on a 46 yard touchdown pass in the corner of the endzone. His other passing touchdown on the day came from a spectacular catch by tight end Aaron Hernandez.

On defense, the Gators dominated the Gamecocks in all facets. They couldn’t run the ball, and they couldn’t throw the ball. Spikes had an awesome game, and picked off yet another pass and ran it in for a touchdown. The defense in general was putting all kinds of pressure on the South Carolina quarterbacks.

The Gators have two regular season games left: Citadel at home, then they travel to Tallahassee to play the Seminoles. After that, it’s on to the SEC Championship vs. Alabama.
